HOSPITALIST SCHOLARS PROGRAM
* preparation for fellowship application
* "gap year" between residency and fellowship
* research career training and experience
The NYU Hospitalist Scholars program combines a 24-hour weekly clinical hospitalist role with a mentored research experience in one of six areas of excellence: cardiology, gastroenterology, hematology/oncology, scientific preparation in our translational science institute, academic general medicine, and informatics.
This program is aimed at those seeking either a one-year experience (with a view toward fellowship) or a two year preparation and Masters of Science degree (for those seeking a career in subspecialty or academic generalist research).
As a Hospitalist Scholar you will work two weekly 12-hour shifts at the university hospital, admitting and caring for general medicine patients as a member of our expanding hospitalist program. At the same time you will engage in mentored research or procedural training. This research may be at the bench, in the clinics, or epidemiologic. You will report jointly to the director of Hospitalist Medicine and to the director of your subspecialty division.
Salary is $75,000 per year with a one-year completion bonus of $10,000 or payment of MSc fees. Full benefits are provided including health and malpractice insurance.
